“For I am watching over them for harm, not for good…” – Jeremiah 44:27 (NIV)
People like to be in the good books, the books of good reputation. No one ever wants to be listed among the notorious. Similarly, people would love to be in God’s good book, but many are not. Do not be deceived. Going to church, reading the Bible, singing Christian songs, and putting on a form of godliness do not get anyone into God’s good books!
What is the state of your heart and the content of your character? In the book of Jeremiah, God showed us how people perished because of disobedience, rebellion, and idolatry. God Himself dealt with His people according to their deeds. When He could no longer endure their wicked actions and the detestable things they did, He caused their land to become a curse, and desolate waste. God Himself caused His own people to die by sword, famine, or terrible diseases.
Ladies and gentlemen, understand this: when we continue in sin, God is watching over us for harm, not for good. Sin attracts God’s wrath. God is holy, and He requires holiness from us. God said: “…Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy.” (Leviticus 19:2 – NIV). It is time to get serious with God.
His Word says: “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, learn to do good…” (Isaiah 1:16-17 – NKJV). “…fear the Lord, and turn away from evil” – (Proverbs 3:7 – ESV).
Ladies and gentlemen, the blood of Jesus is available to wash and restore us. Remember, God is watching. We have a choice between life and death. Choose life.
Prayer
Almighty God and Father, You are holy, and You are watching my every move. Forgive me for being disobedient, rebellious, and idolatrous. Let the blood of Jesus wash away every evil practice and set me free. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
